To date, EMH Food Systems Consulting has built 5 maps for Slow Food USA.

Project Description

EMH Food Systems Consulting joined Karen Karp & Partners (KK&P) to produce a report for the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) detailing food insecurity across the 423-county, 13-state Appalachian Region. EMH Food Systems Consulting supported the KK&P team by conducting qualitative research, reporting, and editing.

EMH Food Systems Consulting improved the user experience on the SC Local Food System RoadMap by editing the layout, design, and data formatting. EMH Food Systems Consulting rebuilt a digital directory, the Farm Resource Guide, which is a companion piece to the RoadMap. Video tutorials and other marketing materials were created by EMH Food Systems Consulting to support these digital tools.

Project Description

EMH Food Systems Consulting worked with Rivendell Carolinas to answer a request from the City of Charlotte's Planning Department and Mecklenburg County Public Health to create a Farm and Farmers’ Market Map of the 16-county, 2-state region around Charlotte, NC utilizing the ESRI Suite of products, and specifically ArcGIS Online.

EMH Food Systems Consulting co-facilitates this quarterly working group with state-wide stakeholders to create a food assessment platform and resource sharing site. EMH Food Systems Consulting designed and led survey outreach as well as conducting qualitative stakeholder research to support project goals.

EMH Food Systems Consulting bolstered the team at Karen Karp & Partners with advisory team coordination, qualitative research, technical report writing and editing to complete a research report for the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). This report establishes a baseline of the local food economy of the 423-county, 13-state Appalachian Region and helps to guide the local food work of the economic development work of the ARC.

EMH Food Systems Consulting created a food system asset map displaying 300+ locations. EMH Food Systems Consulting led development of data handling procedures, partnerships with community organizations, and the creation of marketing toolkit with sample social media posts, a photo library, written copy, and draft press releases.

Project Description

In her role as Senior Project Manager at Rivendell Carolinas, Erin led the creation of a food system map showing the various assets (farms, farmers markets, community gardens, food pantries, emergency food resources, nutrition education, food system infrastructure, among others) for the 16-county, 2-state area surrounding Charlotte, NC. The project was designed to inform policy decisions, food system sustainability, and promote connectivity, and increase public engagement with local food businesses and food security resources.

Project Description

EMH Food Systems Consulting partnered with the research team at Formative Health Consulting to create the WNC Food Supply Chain Map for EmPOWERing Mountain Food Systems, an initiative of North Carolina State Cooperative Extension and the Center for Environmental Farming Systems. This map features data across 12 counties and the Qualla Boundary of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in western North Carolina.

EMH Food Systems Consulting worked with the State of the Plate research team led by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council and UNC Charlotte to produce an ArcGIS StoryMap to inventory and assess the assets and gaps of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg food system as part of the community food assessment.

EMH Food Systems Consulting collected, managed, and maintained food system asset data leveraging stakeholder engagement, surveying, and qualitative interviews with the goal of creating a map of 18 counties and the Qualla Boundary in western North Carolina. EMH Food Systems Consulting created a video tutorial and marketing materials supporting the publication and dissemination of the food system map.
